Walk Along Ministries exists to walk with children and families—not simply to work around them.

Our approach is relational and practical. We listen, build trust, encourage education, pray, and respond to needs with dignity and compassion. The goal is not a moment of help, but a faithful presence that helps people move toward hope and possibility.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Emily Ndawula.

A life shaped by faith, mission work, and a calling to walk alongside people in Uganda.

Emily Ndawula grew up in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and attended a small Christian school where she was introduced to mission work and developed a love for the Word. At the end of high school, she traveled to Uganda and helped lead classes at a small elementary school near Kampala. The experience awakened a lasting love for mission work, travel, and people.

After earning a Bachelor of Science from Azusa Pacific University, Emily returned to Uganda and decided to spend her time serving the Lord there. A third extensive trip lasted seven months, but an unexpected closure of the organization she had joined brought her home. Six weeks later, with the help of friends, she returned to Uganda alone. This is where Walk Along Ministries began.

THE ORGANIZATION

Serving where relationships grow.

Walk Along Ministries began in 2018 while Emily was in Uganda seeking to serve people with severe needs in the slum. Katanga has remained the ministry's primary focus.

Children supported with school fees

Walk Along currently provides school fees for eight children. Costs typically range from about $100–$200 per child per term, depending on the student, grade, and school.

Learning, social-emotional skills, and Bible lessons.

A small classroom in Katanga gives children a place to learn after school. Our two teachers help bridge learning gaps, build social-emotional skills, and teach Bible lessons. During school holidays, children also learn handcraft skills.

A COMMUNITY WE WALK WITH

Katanga is a place of people and possibility.

Katanga is a well-known urban community in a valley between Makerere University and Mulago Hospital in Kampala.

The community is home to an estimated 20,000 people. Small local enterprises—including street food vendors, markets, micro-shops, tailoring, and repair stalls—help families make a living. At the same time, poor drainage, open sewage channels, and limited access to formal schooling create significant challenges for children and families.

We believe faithful service begins by seeing the people, listening to their stories, and walking alongside them.

PROJECTS

Mercy & Aaron: walking with children.

A tutoring program that grew out of the disruption caused by COVID-19 and became an ongoing part of the ministry.

Mercy and Aaron began working with Walk Along Ministries during the COVID lockdown, when schools were closed and children were falling far behind. They began tutoring children in Katanga to help bridge the gap while the community waited roughly 18 months for schools to reopen.

The ministry saw meaningful improvement in the children's academics, emotional well-being, and Biblical literacy, and decided to continue the program. Since 2020, these teachers have served the children of Katanga faithfully each week.
